This page is the central location for information relating to the use of the Linux and other Open Source software on EMAC systems.

What is Linux?

Linux is a Free and Open Source Operating System kernel. EMAC supports Linux on nearly every system that we sell. The type and features of the Linux build provided for a certain system depends on both the capabilities of the system and the intended use. Systems utilizing the Linux Kernel along with other Open Source tools are generically referred to as Linux systems. The term GNU/Linux is also frequently used to reflect the use of software from the GNU project along with the Linux kernel.

EMAC OpenEmbedded Linux

OpenEmbedded is a build framework for embedded Linux systems. It aims to reduce the number of dependencies on the development platform as much as possible and can be used to cross-compile thousands of packages. EMAC utilizes a customized version of OpenEmbedded to create the EMAC OpenEmbedded distribution, or EMAC OE.
